💭 What This Means

Today's reading spans a powerful prophetic message from Micah and a dramatic historical account of King Hezekiah facing the Assyrian invasion. Micah chapter 6 gives us one of the Bible's clearest summaries of what God truly requires from us: not elaborate sacrifices, but to do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with Him. Yet, Micah laments the deep corruption and breakdown of trust in society. Despite this, he declares his unwavering hope in God's salvation, knowing that the Lord delights in mercy and casts sins into the depths of the sea. Then we turn to Hezekiah, who courageously prepares Jerusalem for the Assyrian siege. Hezekiah reminds his people that while the enemy has an 'arm of flesh,' they have the Lord their God to fight their battles. We hear the Assyrian general Rabshakeh's taunts, trying to undermine their faith in God and Hezekiah's leadership. He mocks their trust, but the people remain silent, waiting on their king and their God.
