The First Family, and the First Grace

💭 What This Means

Cain and Abel show us how fast sin spreads once it's in the world: from eating the wrong fruit to murdering a brother. God still meets Cain in his anger, still gives him a chance to do right, and still protects him even in exile. Then comes a genealogy, name after name ending the same way: "and he died." It's a hard rhythm to read, but it's honest. Death was now part of the story. And yet, buried in that same list is a man named Enoch, who "walked with God, and he was not, for God took him." Not every name in that list simply died. Then, right as the world turns violent and corrupt, we meet one more name: Noah, who "found grace in the eyes of the Lord." Even in the bleakest chapter so far, grace finds someone.

Lord, sin spreads fast in this world, and sometimes in me. Thank You that You still meet me in my anger and mistakes the way You met Cain. Help me be someone who walks with You, like Enoch, and finds grace, like Noah. In Jesus' name, Amen.
