A World in Peril and the Lord’s Sovereignty
The global economy is once again caught in a delicate balance, as oil prices fluctuate and traders await news from the Strait of Hormuz. This narrow waterway, a vital artery for global energy, has long been a symbol of human vulnerability. Yet, even in the face of uncertainty, God’s Word reminds us that He is in control. Isaiah 46:10 declares, “My counsel shall stand, and I will do all that I purpose.” The Lord’s sovereignty is not limited to the heavens; it extends to the very foundations of our world.
Lessons from History: When the Waters Stood Still
History has shown that the Strait of Hormuz is not just a geopolitical chokepoint but a test of faith. In 2019, a drone attack disrupted oil shipments, causing prices to spike. At the time, many prayed for divine intervention, and the Lord answered through the swift actions of nations and the resilience of His people. Psalm 121:1-2 assures us, “I lift up my eyes to the hills—from where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Even when the world seems to tremble, the Lord is our refuge.
A New Trial, an Old Promise
Today, as traders hope for the Strait to reopen, we are reminded of the Israelites’ journey through the wilderness. Like them, we face a path filled with uncertainty, but God’s promises remain steadfast. In Exodus 14:13-14, Moses told the Israelites, “Do not be afraid, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord.” The Red Sea parted, not by human effort, but by the power of the Almighty. Similarly, the Lord is preparing a way through the storms of this world.
Trusting the Lord in the Midst of Chaos
The market’s volatility is a reflection of human anxiety, but our hope is rooted in Christ. Proverbs 16:9 says, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” While oil prices may rise and fall, the Lord’s plans are eternal. As we pray for wisdom and peace, we can take heart in Philippians 4:6-7: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the God of peace will be with you.”
A Prayer for Wisdom and Peace
Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your sovereign care over all nations and the world’s resources. We ask for Your wisdom as we navigate these uncertain times. Guide the leaders of this world, and remind them that their actions are in Your hands. May the hearts of all who seek Your truth be strengthened by Your Word. We trust in Your promises and place our hope in Your perfect plan. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
