Day 99 of 365

God Hears and Judges

1 Samuel 1:9-4:11

▶ Listen to Today's Reading

Today's reading, then a short explanation, then a closing prayer — all one recording.

💭 What This Means

Today's reading introduces us to Hannah, a woman in deep distress, who pours out her heart to God, making a vow to dedicate her son to Him if He would grant her one. God hears her prayer, and Samuel is born, whose name means 'heard of God.' Hannah faithfully brings Samuel to serve in the temple, offering a beautiful prayer of praise that speaks of God's power to lift up the humble and bring down the proud. In stark contrast, we see the corrupt sons of Eli, the high priest, who dishonor God and His sacrifices. God sends a prophet to declare judgment on Eli's house. Then, God Himself calls young Samuel to be His prophet, confirming the severe judgment to come. The day ends with a devastating battle where Israel is defeated, the Ark of the Covenant is captured, and Eli's wicked sons are killed, fulfilling God's word.

🙏 Let's Pray

Lord, thank You for hearing the cries of Your people, just as You heard Hannah. Thank You for raising up faithful servants like Samuel. We ask for Your help to honor You in all we do, and to live with integrity, especially when entrusted with sacred things. May we always remember that You are a God of justice who sees all. In Jesus' name, Amen.
