💭 What This Means

Today's reading closes the story of Abraham's life and begins the next chapter with Isaac. We see Abraham taking another wife, Keturah, and having more children, whose descendants are listed. He makes sure to give all his inheritance to Isaac, sending his other sons away with gifts. Then, after living 175 years, Abraham dies and is buried by Isaac and Ishmael. The focus then shifts to Isaac. He marries Rebekah, and like his mother Sarah, she is barren. Isaac prays to the Lord for his wife, and God answers his prayer. Rebekah conceives twins, and even before their birth, God reveals a prophecy: two nations are in her womb, and the elder will serve the younger. This sets the stage for the stories of Esau and Jacob, two very different brothers who will shape the future of God's people.

Lord, thank You for hearing Isaac's prayer for Rebekah, and for continuing Your promise through his family. Even when the path wasn't clear, You were at work. Help me to trust Your timing and Your sovereign plan for my life, knowing that You are always faithful. In Jesus' name, Amen.
