💭 What This Means
Today's reading reminds Israel, and us, of God's faithfulness and what He asks in return. Moses recounts receiving the Ten Commandments a second time, a sign of God's persistent grace even after their rebellion. He then asks a profound question: "What does the Lord your God require of you?" The answer is clear: to fear Him, walk in all His ways, love Him, and serve Him with all your heart and soul. It means keeping His commands, not for His benefit, but for their own good. God calls them to "circumcise their hearts," to be soft and responsive to Him, unlike their stubborn past. He reminds them of His mighty acts, His care for the vulnerable, and the blessings that await them in the promised land if they obey. But also the curses if they turn to other gods. They are told to utterly destroy all pagan worship and to worship only in the central place He chooses, never doing what is right in their own eyes, but always what is right in the sight of the Lord.

Lord, thank You for Your persistent grace, even when we fail. Help me to truly understand what You require: to fear You, love You, and serve You with all my heart. Soften my heart to obey Your commands, not just for my good, but to honor You. Keep me from doing what is right in my own eyes. In Jesus' name, Amen.
