💭 What This Means
Moses begins his final address to Israel, recounting their forty year journey from Mount Horeb. He reminds them of God's command to enter the promised land, and their disastrous rebellion at Kadesh Barnea. Their fear of giants, despite God's promise to fight for them, led to God's judgment: that entire generation, except Caleb, would die in the wilderness. Even Moses was forbidden to enter. For thirty-eight years, they wandered, while God faithfully provided for them. Then, God instructed them to bypass their relatives, the Edomites, Moabites, and Ammonites, whose lands God had already given them. Finally, the time for conquest arrived. God delivered two mighty kings, Sihon and Og, into their hands, and Israel utterly defeated them. This vast territory east of the Jordan was then distributed to the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh. This new generation, having witnessed both God's judgment and His power, stands ready to enter the promised land, with God's commands fresh in their ears and His victories fresh in their minds.

Lord, thank You for Your unwavering faithfulness, even when Your people failed. Forgive us for our fear and disobedience, just as Israel rebelled at Kadesh. Help us to remember Your provision and Your victories in our own lives. Strengthen us to trust Your promises and obey Your commands, so we don't miss out on the good You have for us.
