💭 What This Means
Today's reading takes us from a moment of incredible divine acceptance to a stark reminder of God's holiness. In chapter nine, Aaron and his sons finally begin their priestly service, offering sacrifices for themselves and the people. The glory of the Lord appears, and fire comes out from Him, consuming the offerings on the altar. It's a powerful affirmation. But then, in chapter ten, Aaron's sons Nadab and Abihu offer 'strange fire' to the Lord, and fire comes out and consumes them. It's a shocking moment, showing us that approaching a holy God must be done exactly as He commands. This leads into chapter eleven, where God gives detailed laws about clean and unclean foods. These rules weren't just about diet; they were about teaching Israel to distinguish, to be set apart, to live holy lives that reflected the holiness of God Himself. He reminds them, 'I am the Lord your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy.'

Lord, today we see Your awesome holiness. Thank You for revealing Yourself to Your people. Help me to remember that You are a holy God, and to approach You with reverence and respect, on Your terms. Teach me to live a life that is set apart, distinguishing between what is clean and unclean in Your sight. Make me holy, as You are holy. In Jesus' name, Amen.
