💭 What This Means
Today's reading opens with a reminder of the Sabbath, a holy day of rest. Then Moses calls the Israelites to bring an offering for the Tabernacle, emphasizing that it should come from a willing heart. The response is overwhelming. Men and women, young and old, bring gold, silver, precious stones, fine linens, and skilled labor. Their generosity is truly remarkable. Moses identifies Bezaleel and Aholiab as the master craftsmen, filled with the Spirit of God with wisdom and understanding for every kind of work, even teaching others. As the building begins, the skilled workers come to Moses with an incredible report: the people have brought much more than enough for the work. Moses then has to command them to stop bringing offerings, because they have more than sufficient materials. It’s a powerful picture of a community fully invested in God’s dwelling place, giving beyond expectation. The rest of the chapter describes the detailed construction of the Tabernacle’s curtains, coverings, and framework, all according to God's precise instructions.
