Today's reading continues the detailed laws God gave Israel, covering everything from social justice for the poor, widows, and strangers, to ethical conduct like not spreading false reports or taking bribes. God emphasizes care for the vulnerable, reminding Israel of their own time as strangers in Egypt. He also outlines the annual feasts they are to keep, ensuring they remember His deliverance and provision. Then, in a pivotal moment, Moses presents all these laws and judgments to the people. They respond with one voice, committing to obey everything the Lord has said. Moses then seals this covenant with a powerful ritual: building an altar, offering sacrifices, and sprinkling the blood on both the altar and the people, declaring, "Behold the blood of the covenant." Following this, Moses, Aaron, and seventy elders go up the mountain and see the God of Israel, a profound and astonishing encounter. Finally, Moses ascends further into the cloud of God's glory for forty days and forty nights to receive the stone tablets.
