💭 What This Means
Chapter fifteen introduces the seven angels with the last plagues, and chapter sixteen unleashes them. These are severe judgments on those who oppose God and bear the mark of the beast. We see sores, seas turning to blood, rivers becoming blood, intense heat, and darkness. Even through this, people refuse to repent, instead choosing to blaspheme God. The battle of Armageddon is mentioned, and the seventh bowl brings a mighty earthquake and hail, culminating in the declaration, "It is done." Chapters seventeen and eighteen unveil "Babylon the Great," depicted as a harlot riding a beast. She represents the seductive power of worldly systems, idolatry, and rebellion against God, drunken with the blood of His saints. Her judgment is detailed in chapter eighteen. God calls His people to "come out of her." Kings, merchants, and sailors mourn her sudden destruction, not for her wickedness but for their lost wealth and power. Yet, heaven rejoices because God's justice is finally served. This powerful imagery shows God's complete victory over all evil, and the vindication of His suffering saints.
