💭 What This Means
Today's reading in Revelation gives us a powerful contrast between God's protection and His judgment. Chapter seven shows us the sealed 144,000 from Israel, and then a countless multitude from every nation, standing before the throne, their robes washed in the blood of the Lamb. They are safe, serving God, with no more hunger, thirst, or tears. Then, the trumpet judgments begin. We see devastating plagues on the earth, sea, and freshwaters, as a third of creation is afflicted. The fifth and sixth trumpets unleash terrifying locusts and a vast army, bringing torment and death to a third of humanity. Yet, even after these horrific events, the people who remain refuse to repent of their idolatry, murders, and other sins. Finally, a mighty angel gives John a little book to eat. It's sweet in his mouth, but bitter in his stomach, symbolizing the mixed nature of God's message: the hope of salvation and the harsh reality of judgment.
🙏 Let's Pray
Lord, thank You for the vision of Your countless people, safe and worshipping before Your throne. We see the severity of Your judgments, and the hardness of human hearts that refuse to repent. Help me to live a life worthy of Your grace, turning from sin and trusting in the Lamb's blood. Give me courage to share Your sweet truth, even when it's bitter to hear. In Jesus' name, Amen.
