💭 What This Means
Today's reading gives us one of the most powerful chapters in the Bible about what it means to live by faith. Chapter eleven defines faith as the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Then it takes us on a journey through history, highlighting men and women who lived and died trusting God's promises, even when those promises weren't fully realized in their lifetime. Abraham, Sarah, Moses, and countless others understood that they were strangers on earth, looking for a heavenly city built by God Himself. They endured incredible hardships because they believed God was faithful. Then, chapter twelve calls us to remember this great cloud of witnesses. With their example, we are urged to run our own race with patience, keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus. He is the one who began our faith and will bring it to completion. Just like a loving father, God sometimes disciplines us, not to punish, but to refine us and make us holy. We are called to pursue peace and holiness, knowing that we are not approaching a terrifying mountain, but the joyful city of the living God, with Jesus as the mediator of a new and better covenant.

Lord, thank You for the incredible examples of faith in Your Word. Help me to remember the cloud of witnesses and to fix my eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of my faith. Give me the strength and patience to run the race You've set before me, trusting in Your promises, even when I cannot see the full picture. In Jesus' name, Amen.
