💭 What This Means
Today's reading opens with the incredible hope of Romans 8. Paul reminds us that the sufferings of this life are nothing compared to the glory awaiting us. Even creation groans, waiting for its full redemption, and so do we, helped by the Holy Spirit who intercedes when we don't know how to pray. This chapter culminates in one of the most powerful declarations in Scripture: if God is for us, who can be against us? Nothing, absolutely nothing, can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Then, in chapters 9 and 10, Paul grapples with his deep sorrow for Israel, his kinsmen. He explains that God's plan of salvation has always been based on His sovereign mercy and calling, not on human works or lineage. Israel stumbled, not because God's word failed, but because they pursued righteousness through the law instead of by faith. Paul then passionately declares that Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. Salvation is simply confessing Jesus as Lord and believing God raised Him from the dead. This good news is for everyone, Jew and Gentile alike, and it must be heard, which means it must be preached.
