💭 What This Means
Today's reading hits the heart of the Gospel: salvation by grace through faith, not by works of the law. Paul passionately argues in Galatians that the law was a guide, a schoolmaster, meant to lead us to Christ. But once faith comes, we are no longer under that schoolmaster. We are children of God, adopted as sons and heirs, no longer servants in bondage. This means there's no Jew or Greek, male or female, slave or free; we are all one in Christ Jesus. Paul warns against turning back to legalism, instead urging us to walk in the Spirit, bearing the fruit of love, joy, and peace. He reminds us to bear one another's burdens and to sow to the Spirit, not the flesh. This powerful message is echoed in Acts chapter fifteen, where the church leaders in Jerusalem debate whether Gentile believers must be circumcised and follow the Mosaic law to be saved. Peter, Barnabas, and Paul testify to God's work among the Gentiles, purifying their hearts by faith. James concludes that they should not be burdened with the law, but only asked to abstain from a few practices. Both passages declare that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.
