💭 What This Means
Today's reading in Acts shows the early church exploding with divine power and bold witness. It begins with Peter and John healing a lame man at the Temple gate, not with money, but in the name of Jesus. This miracle leads to Peter proclaiming Jesus' resurrection and calling people to repentance, resulting in thousands believing. The authorities are threatened and arrest the apostles, but Peter fearlessly declares that salvation is found in no other name than Jesus. When released, the believers pray for even more boldness, and God answers by shaking the place and filling them with the Holy Spirit. We also see the deep unity and generosity among the early Christians. However, the story of Ananias and Sapphira reminds us that God takes honesty and integrity seriously, even within the new community. Despite continued arrests and threats, the apostles obey God rather than men, rejoicing in their suffering and tirelessly preaching Jesus Christ.
