💭 What This Means

Today’s reading brings us to the very last Passover Jesus shared with his disciples, a night filled with profound meaning and heartbreaking betrayal. While the religious leaders plotted his death, Judas Iscariot secretly agreed to betray him for thirty pieces of silver. Jesus, knowing his hour had come, prepared the Passover meal. But before they ate, he took a towel and basin, humbling himself to wash his disciples' feet, teaching them a powerful lesson in service. Then, during the meal, he revealed that one of them would betray him, causing great sorrow. He then instituted what we now call the Last Supper, taking bread and wine and declaring them his body and blood, establishing a new covenant. Luke even records a dispute among the disciples about who was greatest, which Jesus used to teach them about true leadership being humble service. Finally, Judas left the table, entering the night to carry out his dark deed.

Lord, thank You for the incredible example of humility and service You showed by washing Your disciples' feet. Thank You for instituting the new covenant through Your body and blood, a sacrifice made for us. Help me to serve others with Your heart, and to always remember Your great love, even in the face of betrayal. In Jesus' name, Amen.
