💭 What This Means

Today’s reading brings us a powerful message of encouragement and future hope as the people rebuild the temple. Haggai reminds them that even if the new temple seems small compared to the first, God promises its future glory will be even greater, and that He will shake the nations. Zechariah calls for repentance, urging them not to repeat their fathers' mistakes, promising God will return to them. We see vivid visions of God's protection for Jerusalem, His plan to cast out those who scattered His people, and the cleansing of the High Priest Joshua from his sin. The powerful message to Zerubbabel, "Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit," assures them that God Himself will enable the completion of the work.
