💭 What This Means
Today, the back-and-forth between Job and his friends continues, but it's far from comforting. Eliphaz and Bildad double down on their accusations, essentially telling Job that his suffering proves he's wicked. Eliphaz starts by calling Job's words "vain knowledge" and implying he rejects God's fear. He paints a picture of the wicked man's inevitable downfall, suggesting Job fits the description. Job responds with raw anguish, calling his friends "miserable comforters." He describes his pain as if God Himself has torn him apart and made him a target. Despite this deep suffering and feeling attacked by both God and man, Job makes an incredible declaration. He cries out that even with his friends mocking him, he has a "witness in heaven" and a "record on high." He longs for someone to plead for him with God, even as he faces the grave. Then Bildad jumps back in, echoing Eliphaz's harsh judgment, portraying a detailed and grim fate for the wicked.

Lord, this reading is hard, seeing Job's pain and his friends' harsh words. Thank You that even in his deepest suffering, Job cried out for a witness in heaven. When I feel misunderstood or alone, help me remember that You are my ultimate witness and advocate. Be my comfort when others fail. In Jesus' name, Amen.
