💭 What This Means
Today's reading in Ezekiel is full of vivid and often disturbing imagery, as God reveals the depth of Judah's sin and the severity of His coming judgment. Ezekiel acts out a prophecy by shaving his head and dividing his hair into three parts, symbolizing the fate of Jerusalem's inhabitants: death by famine and pestilence, by sword, and by scattering. God declares that Jerusalem's wickedness has surpassed even the surrounding nations. We then journey with Ezekiel in a vision to the temple, where he witnesses escalating abominations: elders worshipping idols in secret chambers, women weeping for pagan gods, and even priests turning their backs on the temple to worship the sun. The Lord's glory is seen departing the temple. Finally, executioners are sent to the city, instructed to slay all who do not bear a special mark of sorrow for the city's sins, beginning at the sanctuary itself. It's a stark reminder of God's holiness and His righteous anger against sin.
