💭 What This Means
Today, Jeremiah continues to speak God's heavy words of judgment and sorrow over Judah's persistent rebellion. The people have turned away from God, refusing to return, even though animals instinctively know their seasons. Their leaders offer false peace, while deceit and idolatry are rampant. Jeremiah himself weeps, lamenting the devastation and asking, "Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there?" It's a cry of deep pain for a people who refuse healing. Chapter ten powerfully contrasts the true, living God, the Creator of all, with the lifeless idols carved by human hands. God reminds them that true glory is found in knowing Him and His lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness. Despite repeated warnings, the covenant is broken. Because they have forsaken God's law and pursued other gods, judgment is inevitable, and even Jeremiah is told not to pray for them.

Lord, our hearts ache hearing Jeremiah's lament for a people who turned from You. We confess our own tendencies to seek false comfort or trust in things that are not You. Help us to know You, the true and living God, and to find our glory in Your lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness. Circumcise our hearts, Lord. In Jesus' name, Amen.
