💭 What This Means

Today we witness King Josiah's incredible commitment to the Lord. After hearing the rediscovered book of the covenant, he gathered everyone, made a solemn promise to follow God with all his heart and soul, and the people joined in. What followed was a radical cleanup of idolatry, from Jerusalem to the former northern kingdom. He destroyed altars, Asherah poles, and cult objects, even defiling the ancient altar at Bethel. Then, Josiah led the people in a Passover celebration unlike any seen since the days of the judges. He was a king who turned to the Lord with all his might, yet despite this, God's fierce wrath against Judah remained because of Manasseh's deep sins. This reminds us of God's unwavering justice, a theme echoed in Nahum's prophecy today. Nahum declares God's righteous judgment against the wicked city of Nineveh, a stronghold of evil, promising its utter destruction while offering hope to Judah.

Lord, thank You for kings like Josiah who turn to You wholeheartedly. Help me to seek You with all my heart and remove anything in my life that dishonors You. Your justice is clear, both in judgment and in your faithfulness to your people. Guide me in Your ways, and help me to trust your righteous character today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
