💭 What This Means

Jeremiah's message today is a powerful denunciation of Judah's deep rebellion. God describes a people with eyes that see not and ears that hear not, a nation full of deceit, covetousness, and false leadership. They refuse to walk in the old good paths, and God's fury is about to be poured out from the north. But then we shift to King Josiah, who is repairing the temple. There, the high priest Hilkiah finds the Book of the Law. When it's read to Josiah, he's overwhelmed. He tears his clothes, recognizing the immense wrath of God due to generations of disobedience. He sends to Huldah the prophetess, who confirms the coming destruction but assures Josiah that because of his tender heart and humility, he will be gathered to his grave in peace before the evil comes. It's a stark contrast: a nation hardened, but one king's heart opened by God's Word.
