💭 What This Means

Today's reading spans generations of kings and the call of a prophet. We begin with Manasseh, who reigned for fifty-five years, leading Judah into the deepest idolatry yet. He rebuilt high places, worshipped false gods, and even sacrificed his own son. The Lord declared terrible judgment for his wickedness. But 2 Chronicles reveals a surprising turn: Manasseh was captured, humbled himself, and prayed to God. God heard his plea, restored him, and Manasseh then removed the idols and commanded Judah to serve the Lord. This is a powerful story of repentance and God's grace. His son Amon, however, did not follow his father's repentant path and was assassinated. Then came Josiah, who at only eight years old, began to seek the Lord and initiated a sweeping reform, purging the land of idols. Amidst this, we meet Jeremiah, called by God from a young age to be a prophet to the nations, warning Judah of their deep sin in forsaking the Lord, the fountain of living waters, for broken cisterns.

Lord, thank You for Your incredible grace shown even to a king like Manasseh, who deeply sinned but found forgiveness when he humbled himself. Thank You for raising up leaders like Josiah to turn Your people back to You. Help me to always seek You, the fountain of living waters, and to turn from anything that draws me away from Your truth. In Jesus' name, Amen.
