💭 What This Means
Today’s reading opens with a powerful message of comfort for God’s people. After chapters of judgment, Isaiah now speaks of pardon, of a highway prepared for the Lord, and the revealing of His glory. We are reminded that all flesh is like grass, but the word of our God stands forever. God is incomparable, sitting above the circle of the earth, holding the oceans in His hand, and giving strength to those who wait on Him. He reassures His chosen servant, Israel, with the repeated phrase, 'Fear not, for I am with you.' He promises to help, uphold, and provide, even making a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Chapter 42 introduces the Lord's chosen Servant, who will gently bring justice and be a light to the nations, opening blind eyes and freeing prisoners. Despite Israel's past unfaithfulness and blindness, God declares He will blot out their transgressions for His own sake, and pour out His Spirit and blessing upon them, so that they will proudly call themselves the Lord's.

Lord, thank You for the incredible comfort found in Your promises. You are the incomparable God who strengthens the weary and provides even in the desert. Help me to truly grasp that You are with me, and to trust Your unfailing love and power today. Thank You for blotting out my transgressions. In Jesus' name, Amen.
