💭 What This Means
Today's reading opens with a sweeping vision of global desolation. Isaiah chapter 24 describes the entire earth being emptied and spoiled because its inhabitants have transgressed God's laws and broken the everlasting covenant. It paints a picture of universal judgment, where no one is spared. Yet, even in this scene of chaos, a remnant lifts its voice to sing praises to the Lord. Then, the tone shifts dramatically. Chapter 25 is a beautiful song of praise, celebrating God as a refuge for the poor and a destroyer of wicked cities. It gives us the incredible promise that God will make a feast for all peoples, swallow up death in victory, and wipe away every tear. Chapter 26 speaks of perfect peace for those whose minds are stayed on the Lord, and a stunning promise of resurrection: "Thy dead men shall live." Finally, in chapter 29, we see judgment on Jerusalem for its spiritual blindness, but also the hope that the deaf will hear and the blind will see, and those who erred in spirit will come to understanding.

Lord, today's words remind us of Your ultimate power over all things. Thank You for the promise that You will swallow up death in victory and wipe away every tear.
