💭 What This Means

Today's psalms begin with a beautiful picture of blessing for those who fear the Lord: a fruitful family, prosperity, and peace in Jerusalem. Yet, Psalm 129 reminds us that Israel has faced much affliction, but God has always delivered them, cutting the cords of the wicked. This leads naturally to Psalm 130, a profound cry from 'out of the depths,' acknowledging our sinfulness but hoping in the Lord's abundant forgiveness and mercy. We wait for Him more eagerly than watchmen wait for the morning. Then, Psalm 132 recalls David's passionate vow to find a dwelling place for God, and God's faithful promise in return: that He has chosen Zion as His eternal rest and will establish David's lineage forever. The final psalms, 134 and 135, are powerful calls to worship and praise. They remind us of God's supreme greatness above all false gods, His mighty acts in history, from Egypt to the giving of the land. We are called to bless Him, recognizing His goodness and faithfulness.

Lord, thank You for the blessings You pour out on those who fear You. When I find myself in the depths, help me remember Your abundant forgiveness and mercy, and wait for You with hope.
