💭 What This Means
Today's psalms remind us of God's power and faithfulness, and our human tendency to forget. Psalm 75 declares God as the ultimate judge, putting down the proud and exalting the humble. Psalm 76 emphasizes His fearsome presence and saving power, especially for the meek. Then, Psalm 77 takes us into the depths of despair, as the psalmist cries out in trouble, questioning God's mercy and promises. But in a powerful turning point, he chooses to remember God's wonders of old: His strength, His redemption of Jacob and Joseph, and how He led His people through the sea and wilderness like a flock. This sets the stage for Psalm 78, a sweeping historical account. It urges generations to remember God's law and mighty works, unlike their stubborn ancestors who provoked God repeatedly, despite His miraculous provision of manna, water, and deliverance from Egypt. Even in their unfaithfulness, God was compassionate, though He eventually judged their idolatry. Finally, He chose Judah and David to shepherd His people, demonstrating His enduring commitment.

Lord, thank You for Your unwavering faithfulness, even when I forget Your goodness. Help me to remember Your mighty works and the ways You have redeemed Your people throughout history, and in my own life. When doubt or trouble comes, remind me to recall Your promises and Your compassionate heart. Give me a steadfast spirit that trusts in You always. In Jesus' name, Amen.
