💭 What This Means
Today's reading gives us a unique moment in Scripture. Both 2 Samuel chapter 22 and Psalm 18 are essentially the exact same song, a powerful psalm of David celebrating God's deliverance. David sings this song after the Lord rescued him from all his enemies, including Saul. He begins by declaring God as his rock, fortress, deliverer, and shield. The imagery is incredible, describing God's intervention as the earth shaking, smoke and fire coming from His nostrils, and Him riding on a cherub through the skies to save David. David recounts how God heard his cry in distress and brought him into a large, safe place because He delighted in him. It's a bold declaration of God's perfect way and His unwavering commitment to those who trust Him, even teaching David's hands to war and making him great through His gentleness. This song reminds us that our God is mighty to save and faithful to His people.
