💭 What This Means

Today, we see David finally anointed king over all Israel in Hebron, after a long wait. The tribes gather with perfect hearts, recognizing God's hand on him, and celebrate for days. David then conquers Jerusalem, making it his capital, the City of David. His reign is affirmed by Hiram of Tyre, who helps build his palace. When the Philistines attack, David doesn't rush into battle. He asks the Lord for guidance, receiving specific instructions, even a sign of the mulberry trees. He obeys, and God gives him victory, showing His presence going before David. Then, David tries to bring the Ark of God to Jerusalem, but a tragic error occurs when Uzzah touches it. God's holiness is powerfully revealed, and Uzzah dies. David is afraid, leaving the Ark in the home of Obed-edom, where it brings blessing for three months.

🙏 Let's Pray

Lord, we praise You for establishing David as king, and for going before him in battle. Help us to seek Your counsel as David did, trusting You for victory in our own lives. Forgive us when we forget Your holiness, and teach us to approach Your presence with reverence and awe. May our homes be blessed by Your presence, just like Obed-edom's. In Jesus' name, Amen.
