💭 What This Means
Today we witness one of the Bible's most poignant friendships. Jonathan and David renew their deep covenant, a bond stronger than family loyalty for Jonathan. He risks everything to warn David of Saul's murderous intent. We see Saul's escalating rage, even throwing a spear at his own son, cementing the truth that David must flee. David's flight is desperate. He arrives at Nob, hungry and weaponless, resorting to a lie to get consecrated bread and Goliath's sword from Ahimelech the priest. Then, fearing for his life in Gath, he feigns madness before King Achish, a humbling and terrifying moment for the future king. Psalm 34, likely written from this very experience, perfectly captures his heart. It's a powerful declaration of trust, praising the Lord who hears the cries of the poor and delivers them from all their fears. Even in the midst of desperate circumstances, David found reason to bless the Lord at all times.

Lord, thank You for faithful friends and for Your constant presence, even when life feels desperate. Help me to trust You completely, knowing You hear my cries and deliver me from fear, just as You did for David. May I always taste and see that You are good. In Jesus' name, Amen.
