💭 What This Means
Today's reading in Leviticus continues to hammer home God's call to holiness for His people. Chapter 20 lists some of the most serious sins, like offering children to Molech or various sexual sins, and the severe consequences for them. God says these actions defile His sanctuary and profane His holy name, and that Israel must be holy because He is holy. He warns that the land itself will 'spue out' those who live in such impurity. Then, chapters 21 and 22 focus on the priests, who are called to an even higher standard. They have specific rules about mourning, marriage, and physical blemishes, all designed to ensure they represent God's holiness without compromise. Even the animals offered as sacrifices must be perfect, without blemish, reflecting God's own unblemished character.
