💭 What This Means

Today's reading gives us a powerful look into Paul's heart for his spiritual sons, Timothy and Titus. We hear Paul's final charges to Timothy: to flee evil, pursue righteousness, and to 'fight the good fight of faith.' He reminds us that God is the King of kings, and that those with wealth should not trust in riches, but in the living God, being rich in good works. Then, in Titus, Paul lays out practical instructions for ordering the church in Crete, emphasizing sound doctrine for all believers: older men and women, young men and women, and even servants. He makes it clear that we are saved not by our own works, but by God's kindness and mercy, through the washing of regeneration. This grace teaches us to live soberly, righteously, and godly, eagerly awaiting Christ's glorious appearing. Finally, in 2 Timothy, Paul encourages Timothy to stir up the gift of God, reminding him that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
