💭 What This Means
Today's reading reveals the mighty advance of God's kingdom. In Acts, we meet Apollos, a passionate speaker, whose understanding is deepened by Aquila and Priscilla. Paul later encounters disciples in Ephesus who receive the Holy Spirit after being baptized in Jesus' name. The Word grows so powerfully there that people publicly burn their magic books, and even a dramatic encounter with demons shows the supreme authority of Jesus' name. Moving to 1 Corinthians, Paul immediately tackles serious divisions within the church, with people aligning themselves with different leaders. He firmly states that Christ is not divided. Paul preaches Christ crucified, which seems foolish to the world, but is truly God's power and wisdom. He emphasizes that human wisdom pales in comparison to God's ways, and that he and Apollos are merely servants; it is God who gives the increase and builds His church on the one foundation, Jesus Christ.
🙏 Let's Pray
Lord, thank You for the power of Your Spirit and the truth of Your Word. Forgive us when we are tempted by human wisdom or allow divisions to creep into Your church. Help us to always center our faith on Christ crucified, trusting in Your wisdom and power alone. May we always remember that You are the one who gives the increase as we build on the foundation of Jesus. In Jesus' name, Amen.
