Suffering Prophet, Glorious Vision

💭 What This Means

Today we see two prophets in very different circumstances, yet both encountering God in powerful ways. Jeremiah, still in Jerusalem, faces intense persecution. Falsely accused, he's thrown into a muddy dungeon, left to die. Yet, an unlikely hero, Ebed-melech, rescues him. Jeremiah continues to speak God's truth to a fearful King Zedekiah, urging surrender to save the city, but Zedekiah is too afraid of his own people. Meanwhile, far away in Babylon among the exiles, Ezekiel receives an overwhelming vision of God's glory. He sees incredible living creatures, wheels within wheels, and a throne above a crystal firmament, shining with fire and a rainbow. God commissions him to speak to a rebellious people, telling him to eat a scroll filled with lamentations, which surprisingly tastes sweet. God promises to make Ezekiel's face hard like flint, equipping him for the difficult task of delivering His word to a stiff-hearted nation. Both prophets demonstrate the cost and power of speaking God's truth.

Lord, thank You for the courage of Your prophets, even when it led to suffering. Help me to speak Your truth without fear, even when it's hard. And like Ezekiel, open my eyes to Your glory, that I might be strengthened and equipped for the work You've called me to do. In Jesus' name, Amen.
