💭 What This Means
Today's reading opens with profound sorrow, Rachel weeping for her children, symbolizing Israel's exile. But immediately, God speaks hope, promising their return and restoration. He expresses deep compassion for Ephraim, His 'dear son,' assuring mercy and a turning back to Him. Then, we hear about the incredible promise of a new covenant. Unlike the old one, God will write His law directly onto their hearts. Everyone will know Him, and their sins will be completely forgiven and remembered no more. This is a covenant as sure as the sun and moon. The chapters then shift to the Lord's strong judgment against the nations, especially Babylon, who proudly afflicted His people. God declares Babylon's utter destruction and desolation. Yet, amidst this judgment, He reassures Israel that they are not forgotten. Their Redeemer is strong, and their iniquity will be sought for and not found. God is watching to build and to plant His people anew.

Lord, thank You for the incredible promise of Your new covenant. Thank You for writing Your law on our hearts and for forgiving our sins completely. Help me to live in the certainty of Your promises today, knowing You are faithful to both build and redeem. In Jesus' name, Amen.
