💭 What This Means
Today's reading in Isaiah is a powerful message of both God's justice and His boundless love. We hear God declare Himself the first and the last, the Creator who spans the heavens. He reminds Israel of their past disobedience and how much He longs for their peace to be like a river. But even in their unfaithfulness, God reveals His plan to redeem them from Babylon. Chapter 49 introduces the mysterious Servant of the Lord, called from the womb, who will not only restore Israel but also be a light to the Gentiles, bringing salvation to the ends of the earth. This Servant describes his suffering, his back given to smiters, yet his trust remains in God. God reassures Zion, who feels forgotten, saying "I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands." The chapters culminate in a call for Zion to "Awake" and put on beautiful garments, for the Lord will redeem Jerusalem. It ends with the beautiful imagery of those bringing good tidings of peace and salvation, declaring that "Thy God reigneth!" and God Himself will go before and behind His people.

Lord, thank You for being the first and the last, the God who creates and redeems. Thank You for not forgetting Your people, but engraving us on Your hands. Help me to trust in Your promises of salvation and to carry the good news of Your reign to others. May my feet be beautiful, bringing peace to a weary world. In Jesus' name, Amen.
