💭 What This Means

Today's Psalms are a powerful call to praise and trust in the one true God. Psalm 115 contrasts the living God, who does whatever He pleases, with lifeless idols of silver and gold. It's a reminder to put our trust in the Lord alone, because He is our help and shield. Psalm 116 then bursts forth with personal gratitude, "I love the Lord, because he has heard my voice and my supplications." The psalmist recalls being delivered from the pains of death and sorrow, vowing to offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving. Then, Psalm 117 is a short but mighty invitation for all nations to praise the Lord, for His merciful kindness and truth endure forever. Finally, Psalm 118 echoes this theme, declaring "His mercy endures forever" four times. It celebrates God's deliverance from distress, affirming that it's better to trust in the Lord than in man or princes. The psalm speaks of the stone the builders rejected becoming the cornerstone, and proclaims, "This is the day which the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."
