💭 What This Means

Today's Psalms lift our eyes to the greatness of God and His beloved city, Zion. We begin with shouts of triumph, proclaiming God as the great King over all the earth in Psalm 47 and 48. These psalms celebrate His power, His refuge, and His promise to establish Zion forever. Then, Psalm 49 offers a powerful contrast, reminding us not to fear the wealth of others, because riches cannot redeem a soul. It's a sobering reminder that all people, rich and poor, face death, but God promises to redeem the soul of the upright from the grave. Psalm 84 expresses a deep longing for God's presence, declaring that one day in His courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. It calls God our sun and shield, who withholds no good thing from those who walk uprightly. Psalm 85 pleads for God's mercy and revival, speaking of a time when mercy and truth meet, and righteousness and peace kiss. Finally, Psalm 87 celebrates Zion as the city where God's people are born, a place of glorious things, where even those from other nations are counted as her children.
