💭 What This Means
Today we meet Elijah, one of God's most dramatic prophets. We see God's incredible provision for the widow of Zarephath, first with the never-ending meal and oil, and then by raising her son from the dead. This sets the stage for the epic showdown on Mount Carmel. Elijah challenges the prophets of Baal, and God answers by fire, consuming the sacrifice, the wood, the stones, and even the water. It's an undeniable display of God's power, leading the people to declare, 'The Lord, he is God.' But immediately after this triumph, Elijah flees from Jezebel's threats, falling into deep despair. God meets him on Mount Horeb, not in the mighty wind, earthquake, or fire, but in a still, small voice, reminding Elijah he is not alone and giving him new purpose, including calling Elisha. Even with King Ahab's continued faithlessness, God demonstrates His power and faithfulness by delivering Israel from Ben-hadad's army.

Lord, thank You for revealing Your power and presence in so many ways. Thank You for providing for the widow, for answering by fire on Mount Carmel, and for speaking in a still, small voice when Elijah was at his lowest. Help me to recognize You in both the grand and quiet moments of my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
