💭 What This Means
Today's psalms give us a powerful journey through the human heart before God. Chapters 144 and 145 are filled with soaring praise. We hear about the Lord as our strength, our fortress, our deliverer. His greatness is unsearchable, His mercies are over all His works. He is gracious, compassionate, and slow to anger, satisfying the desire of every living thing. His kingdom is everlasting, and He upholds all who fall. Then we turn to a very different sound. Psalm 88 is one of the Bible's rawest laments. The psalmist feels full of troubles, near death, abandoned by friends, and believes God's wrath lies hard upon him. He cries out day and night. Psalm 89 begins by proclaiming God's faithfulness and His covenant with David, promising an eternal throne. But then it too turns to questioning, asking why God seems to have broken that covenant and brought his anointed to ruin. These psalms show us that we can bring both our greatest praise and our deepest, most painful questions to the Lord, knowing He is faithful.

Lord, what a powerful picture of Your greatness and our humanity today. Thank You for being a God of unsearchable greatness and tender mercies, who provides for all. Thank You that You are faithful, even when our lives feel full of troubles. Help me to bring all my praise and all my honest questions to You, trusting in Your everlasting covenant.
